About our Society
In 1930 a group of like-minded people came together to put on a show to raise funds to endow a bed at Stockport Infirmary. A performance of HMS Pinafore and Cox and Box was performed at Hatherlow Sunday School in October 1931 with Romiley Operatic Society being formed the following year.
Other than for a short period during the war years, we have performed at least one show every year since, and have trodden the boards at many venues in the area including The Savoy Cinema, Romiley, The Theatre Royal, Hyde, The Davenport Theatre, Stockport, Romiley Forum, The Royal Northern College of Music and now our home at the Stockport Plaza. We were in fact the last society to perform at the Davenport Theatre before it was demolished, but any link between the two has absolutely no substance!!!
We are an amateur group dedicated to keeping performing arts live and attainable for everyone, and take pride in supporting a local charity each year.
Even if you can’t sing and dance we welcome new members who want to take part in any aspect of theatre production. You are always assured of a warm welcome so come along and have fun!
